At Cotsford, we have developed a range of pupil leadership roles to help children feel trusted, valued and proud of their school. These opportunities encourage pupils to take responsibility, make positive choices and support others. Roles such as school council members, buddies, monitors and ambassadors help children develop confidence, communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills. They also prepare pupils for the future by giving them experience of skills that are important in real-life and workplace situations, including organisation, listening to others and working as part of a team. Pupil leadership helps children understand that their voice matters and that they can make a positive difference to school life.
The School Team
At the beginning of the school year each class votes to elect members to represent their ideas, views and decisions through The School Team. We work together to make improvements to our school and the way we do things at Cotsford Primary School. We want to improve and have an impact not only within our school, but within our community and the wider world.
We look around for things that could be better and discuss what to do. Everyone gets a chance to speak and when we’ve finished we vote on the best ideas and then start working on changing things.
Our School Team aims to prepare our pupils for citizenship by teaching them about roles, rights and responsibilities within the school system.

Librarians
Librarians play an important role in helping to promote reading across the school. They support the organisation of the library by tidying books, helping younger pupils choose suitable texts and encouraging others to take care of the reading area. They may also help with book displays, recommendations and reading events. This role develops responsibility, confidence and communication skills, while helping to create a positive reading culture where pupils enjoy and value books.
Reading Leaders
Reading Leaders play an important role in promoting a love of reading across the school. They encourage other children to enjoy books by sharing recommendations, supporting reading activities and helping to create a positive reading culture. They read with younger pupils at lunch time, talk about favourite books, support reading challenges, present certificates linked to reading during Celebration assembly and help with special events such as World Book Day. This role develops confidence, communication and leadership skills, while helping pupils understand the importance and enjoyment of reading.

Maths Leaders
Maths Leaders promote a positive attitude towards maths and support pupils with their learning across the school. They encourage other children to enjoy maths by supporting games, challenges and activities that help pupils practise key skills. They help with maths displays, run competitions, provide peer support and celebrate achievements by presenting certificates. This role also develops confidence, teamwork and communication skills, while helping pupils see maths as enjoyable, useful and important in everyday life.

Sports Leaders
Sports Leaders play an important role in celebrating and promoting sport across the school. Following sports activities, festivals and tournaments, they help share sports reports with other pupils, staff and the wider school community. This gives them the opportunity to develop their oracy skills by speaking clearly, explaining what happened, sharing successes and reflecting on teamwork and effort. The role helps pupils build confidence, communication and leadership skills, while encouraging pride in school sport.
Monitors
Our monitors help ensure the school runs smoothly by carrying out trusted responsibilities, supporting routines and looking after shared areas. This role encourages children to be reliable, organised and helpful, while developing confidence, independence and a sense of pride in contributing to school life.
Our Monitors are: Skyla, Everlie, Charlotte and Willow.
Gardening Leaders
Gardening Leaders help pupils learn about nature, responsibility and caring for the world around them. They encourage others to take pride in outdoor areas by supporting planting, growing and looking after flowers, fruit or vegetables. They may also share updates about the school grounds, explain what has been planted and talk about how gardening helps wildlife and the environment. This role helps pupils develop responsibility, teamwork, communication and confidence, while promoting care for nature and sustainability.
Our Gardening Leaders are: Carissa, Aleena, Neveah, Casie, Fauzia, Michelle, Zina, Jasmine, Tobias and Haleemah.
